HBCU National Tennis Championship Results

The HBCU National Tennis Championship kicks off today with the first matches schedule for today.  The tournament is set up with various divisions .  Flight A,B and C singles for men and women and Flight A and B doubles for men and women.  To see the draw and the latest results click on the links below.

The 12th Annual HBCU National Championship Tennis Tournament will be hosted by the FAMU tennis team, starting today, through Saturday at the Clayton County Tennis Center in Jonesboro, GA.

This year’s tournament has a host of sponsors, dedicated to helping provide a good experience for the best tennis players in HBCU athletics. Several teams will participate in this year’s tournament. Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Benedict College, Bethune-Cookman, Clark-Atlanta, Delaware State, Hampton, Morehouse, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Prarie View A&M, Savannah State, Southern University and the FAMU Rattlers will all participate in both men’s and women’s tennis competition.

This year’s event is sponsored by the USTA National Diversity Committee, who is the title sponsor. They are providing among other things, a $1,000 scholarship to both the men’s and women’s champions. The USTA Florida, USTA Southern Section, Rainbow Tennis Association, Coacn Tennis Association, Coca Cola, Suru Balogun, Clayton County Tennis Center and Everest Academy Massage Therapy have all provided fund and resources to accommodate and grow the tournament.

Play begins daily at 8:30 a.m. and admission is free to the public. The address to the Clayton County Tennis Center is 2300 Highway 138, Jonesboro, GA 30236.

12th Annual HBCU National Tennis Championships

12th Annual HBCU National Tennis Championships

Clayton County Tennis Center in Jonesboro, GA

The Clayton County Tennis Center will host the 12th Annual HBCU National Championships on Thursday, September 27th to Sunday, September 30th 2012 in Jonesboro, GA. This year’s competition will gather some of the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) representing NCAA division I, II and NAIA tennis programs.

On the men’s’ side, the RATTLERS (Florida A&M University), five (5) times defending champions will have their work cut out as they seek to win another championship. On the women’s side, Southern University Lady Jaguars once again will be a big contender to win their fourth consecutive Championships.

Last year’s event boasted the participation of 15 schools such as Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Bethune-Cookman, Bluefield State, Clark-Atlanta, Florida A&M University, Fort Valley State, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central, Hampton, Morehouse, Prairie View A&M, Savannah State, Southern, and Xavier University in Louisiana, as well as 150 student-athletes.

The 12th Annual HBCU National Championships is anticipated to have the largest field of participants along with the best talents to complete for this year’s National Championship titles.

The annual affair will also feature a Welcoming Mixer on Thursday, Pro-Am Double Tennis Mixer on Friday and Junior Tennis Clinic on Saturday’s schedule which will be held at the Clayton County Tennis Center.
